Growing Older

Today is a big day for me – I’m now twenty-seven, despite the fact our summer intern thought I was in my mid-30’s.  (As a disclaimer, it was her second day on the job and I was driving our new minivan with a baby seat in the back.)

Shrimp spinning - or are they running?

Spin is a powerful tool.  Recently, a politician calling for reduced federal spending targeted one study as being frivolous.  It involved a shrimp running on a treadmill.  His claim?  Paraphrased: “Half a million of our taxpayer dollars were spent teaching shrimp to run on a treadmill!”  TV reports even show footage of a shrimp running on a treadmill.  Compelling?  Yes.  Enough to cause outrage?  Maybe.  Truthful?  That’s debatable.

Going "All-In"

Bleeding Orange

Yesterday I took a big leap of faith.  The last time I took this leap, I passed out.  Not a great experience.  On to the story – I was at my church dropping something off on Monday afternoon.  A fellow member stopped me in the hallway and asked me if I was there for the blood drive.  I told him no, but said “if you have an opening, I can try.”

Engenius Nonprofit Website Grant

This year has certainly been an adventure.  The Great Recession seems to be nearing an end, but recovery looks to be slow.  A lot of people are without jobs and even more are in jobs other than the field they specialize in.
